Stanford Bank (Panama), S.A Information Security

The security and integrity of our client's data is very important to us and we strive to maintain high levels of security standards. Stanford Bank (Panama), S.A (SBP) has developed a comprehensive, layered security infrastructure to protect against loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control, including a multilayer security architecture to prevent network intrusions, data encryption to prevent the reading of data by a third party during transmission, and application authentication to prevent unauthorized access.

How We Protect Your Information Online

  • Firewall

  • Much like its physical counterpart, a firewall protects the inside of SBP's computer systems by refusing entry to what isn't authorized. To pass through this checkpoint, your browser must know the protocol to use - in other words, the language to speak - that will allow it to obtain authorized information, but only from designated SBP systems.

  • Constant Surveillance

  • SBP's security team, led by our Chief Security Officer, constantly monitors our security systems to make sure that your accounts are safe and secure.

  • Encryption

  • Your password as well as all information relating to your accounts and your enrollment are scrambled using some of the strongest forms of encryption commercially available for use over the World Wide Web.

Microsoft Internet Explorer displays the icon in the lower right corner of the browser. For secure sessions, a closed lock icon will be displayed. For not secure pages, no lock icon will be displayed.

For secure pages, a closed lock icon will be displayed in the lower corner of your browser. For secure pages, a closed lock icon will be displayed. For not secure pages, an unlocked lock icon will be displayed.

If you use Netscape Communicator 4.7 or later, you can click on the icon displayed to determine what level of encryption is being used for a particular Web page.

All SBP supported browsers (Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, Safari) provide detailed information on security levels. See your browser's help or documentation for more information. SBP ensures that all sessions via the Internet are encrypted. If, for any reason, your secure session ends, your Online Banking session terminates.

  • Timed Log-off

  • If you forget to logoff, SBP does it for you by terminating your banking session when you haven't used it for 10 minutes.

  • Advances in Security Technology

  • SBP's security team keeps abreast of and implements relevant technology developments - whether it is an improved form of encryption or a better method for monitoring unauthorized intrusion. Our security team constantly monitors attempts to break into our security system to make sure your account information is safe and secure.

What You Can Do

Your computer can be infected with a virus when you download programs from the Internet, launch email attachments or share diskettes. We encourage you to employ safe computing practices that include:

  • Keep your computer operating system up to date

  • If your computer is more than five years old, its operating system may not provide the same level of security that is standard on newer systems. Even if your computer system is less than three years old, you should remain alert to any potential security issues. Check manufacturers' Web sites frequently for operating system updates that can help keep your system secure; some provide automatic updates via email. These manufacturers' Web sites include:

    http://www.info.apple.com

  • Keep your browser current

  • The browser software you use to connect to the Internet is an important link in protecting your security online.

  • Protect your password

  • Your password, combined with a username protects your financial data from unauthorized use.

Make your online banking password different from passwords you use for other, less critical purposes.

Memorize your password and never write it down or reveal it to anyone, including bank employees.

Do not let other people use your password. By giving your password to another person, you take full responsibility (until you notify us) for all transactions made by that person or anyone else they may give your password to.

Do not use the automatic log-in functions that store your password.

For extra security, change your password frequently

Remember to sign off once you've completed your online session.

  • Use virus protection software

  • Commercially available virus protection software helps reduce the risk of contracting computer viruses that can compromise your security. Most virus protection software programs offer free upgrades to provide ongoing protection.

  • Act with caution when downloading programs

  • Downloading programs from unknown sources can give you more than you bargained for - they sometimes carry hidden programs that can compromise your computer's security safeguards. Beware of opening email attachments from unknown sources. And don't use the same password you use for online banking on entertainment or other commercial sites.
